About the event
Freeman brings more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience to the role, having previously served as executive director of the Franklin Family YMCA in Franklin, Tenn., Hogan Family YMCA in Madison, Ala., and the Downtown Birmingham YMCA in Birmingham, Ala. During his eight-year tenure at the Franklin Family YMCA, he was known for his commitment to service, furthering the organization’s mission and driving positive workplace culture. Most recently, Freeman served as shelter manager and case manager at Safe Haven.
Drew Freeman joined Safe Haven in 2022 as a shelter advocate and then case manager before moving into the role as CEO in 2023. Freeman brings more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience to the role. As CEO of Safe Haven, Freeman led the organization through a successful 100 Day Challenge, collaborating with more than 30 community partners to house 123 families in 100 days and improve processes around data and housing placements. In 2023, Safe Haven served 332 families and made 148 housing placements.
In June of 2024, Freeman was elected to the Nashville-Davidson County Continuum of Care Homelessness Planning Council.
Freeman previously served as executive director of the Franklin Family YMCA in Franklin, TN, Hogan Family YMCA in Madison, AL and the Downtown Birmingham YMCA in Birmingham, AL. During his eight-year tenure at the Franklin Family YMCA, he was known for his commitment to service, furthering the organization’s mission and driving positive workplace culture.
In addition to his vast nonprofit experience, Freeman has a commitment to serving the community with recent involvement with the Rotary of Williamson County, Franklin Tomorrow and the Williamson County Black Business Coalition. Freeman lives in Franklin, TN and is the father to three children. Outside of work, he enjoys watching sports, cooking, traveling, visiting local restaurants and attending concerts.
